Bierer GT400-2 Personal Grounding Assembly Tester

The GT400-2 provide quality testing for personal protective grounding assemblies. The GT Series Grounding Assembly Testers are designed to provide integrity testing of the electrical characteristics of portable protective grounding assemblies. The GT Series Testers provide a reliable test by administering Rated ASTM Current through the grounding assembly and measuring the voltage drop across the assembly. The voltage drop in conjunction with a thorough visual inspection determines if the grounding assembly meets ASTM electrical specifications.

The GT Series Testers are housed in a sturdy carrying case. Each unit is compact, weighs approximately 60 pounds and quickly confirms the condition of an entire grounding jumper assembly. It is easy to operate and can be set up for testing in a matter of minutes by qualified lab or field personnel.

GT400-2 Features:

  • Powered by conventional 115VAC outlet rated at 20 amps or higher
  • Variable transformer allows ASTM continuous current to be applied to cable
  • Compact and easy to read reference chart
  • Optional voltmeter (suffix VMA) addition allows for troubleshooting clamp and ferrule connections
  • Easily converts for testing elbows, bushings, mechanical jumpers, substation clamps, truck grounds and cluster grounds
  • Optional adapters are available for special applications

How to Use the GT400-2 Grounding Assembly Tester:

  1. Make sure the current control knob is turned fully counterclockwise to zero.
  2. Install the test studs into the threaded terminals provided on thesides of the tester.
  3. Measure the grounding jumper to the nearest foot. For lengthsnot shown on the chart, round to the nearest foot. For a moreconservative test, always round down.
  4. Clamp the grounding jumper to the test studs, making sureclamps are properly tightened. See diagrams for preferred cableconfigurations.
  5. Turn the power switch to the “ON” position.
  6. While observing the digital ammeter, slowly turn the currentcontrol knob clockwise until the current in the test cable reachesits rated ASTM value (based on the cable dia.) provided on table.
  7. Grounding jumpers failing the test must be disassembled forinspection, cleaning, tightening, and/or terminal replacement. Ifthe grounding jumper fails the retest after maintenance isperformed, the grounding jumper should be retired.
